Meet the Directors

Bilal Khan

Bilal Khan is the President and Chief Executive Officer of New World Medical, a medical device firm based in Rancho Cucamonga, California. He also serves on the Board of Directors of multiple for-profit and non-profit organizations. Prior to joining New World Medical, he worked as an Actuary in Chicago, Los Angeles, and London, becoming a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 2008.

Mr. Khan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Actuarial Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master of Business Administration in Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with honors.

Malik Y. Kahook, MD

Malik Y. Kahook, MD is Professor of Ophthalmology and The Slater Family Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is Vice Chair of Translational Research and serves as chief of the glaucoma service and co-director of the glaucoma fellowship at the University of Colorado Eye Center. Dr. Kahook has authored over 400 peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters, and is editor of Essentials of Glaucoma Surgery, MIGS: Advances in Glaucoma Surgery, the free online wiki www.keogt.com and the seminal textbook of glaucoma Chandler and Grant’s Glaucoma.

He was named New Inventor of the Year for the University of Colorado in 2009 and Inventor of the Year for 2010. Dr. Kahook has also received the American Glaucoma Society Innovator Award (2020), the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award in 2011, the American Academy of Ophthalmology Senior Achievement Award in 2017, the American Academy of Ophthalmology Secretariat Award (2014), the Ludwig Von Sallmann Clinician-Scientist Award (ARVO) in 2013 and was ranked second on the 40 under 40 Ophthalmology Power List (2015). He was named to the top ten list of The Ophthalmologist Power 100 List in 2020.

Dr. Kahook has filed for over 150 patents, with over 50 granted patents licensed by companies including New World Medical, Alcon, Aurea Medical, and SpyGlass Pharma for development and commercialization. Several of his devices are currently in human trials or available globally for clinical use including the Kahook Dual Blade from New World Medical and the Harmoni modular intraocular lens system from ClarVista Medical which was acquired by Alcon. Dr. Kahook serves as Chair of Orbis International’s Medical Advisory Committee and is a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration’s Ophthalmic Device Division.

Khalid Mansour

Khalid Mansour is the President & COO of New World Medical and directly oversees the product development, production, quality & regulatory, as well as clinical and medical affairs activities.

Prior to joining New World Medical in 2013, Khalid got his foundation in medical device development as an R&D engineer working in respiratory care with focus on neonatal intensive care technologies. Khalid holds several patents in the fields of respiratory care and glaucoma therapies with many products currently being marketed and used to treat patients.

Khalid also works closely with his local community and helped start educational and social services initiatives that continue to remain active and grow.

Khalid holds a B.S. in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley and an MBA from the Wharton School at UPenn.

Raymond Kong

Raymond Kong serves as Chief Commercial Officer of New World Medical with direct oversight of all global sales, marketing and other direct customer facing departments.

An Eyecare Industry veteran, Raymond has dedicated his career to Surgical Ophthalmology and has worked for multiple companies in the field spanning both US and International assignments. His global experience brings a unique perspective to the efforts of Sidra Tree. In addition to his role at New World Medical, Raymond has served consecutive terms on the board of directors of Beyond Blindness, a local non-profit organization as well as served a board member and advisor to various start-ups in the field.

Raymond holds a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Riverside.
